National Association of Youth NGOs

Aim

National Association of Youth NGOs is formulated by Ministry of Youth Development and Sports on basis of achieving the goals of the National Youth Policy by assisting Youth NGOs to efficiently run programmes and activities, increasing the role of Youth NGOs in the development of youth, act as a moderator for Youth NGOs when communicating with government sectors and expand relations with both parties and providing financial and technical assistance in the development of Youth NGOs.

Membership

Membership will be given to those NGOs which are working in the field of Youth and decided by National Association of Youth NGOs to give membership when requested for membership.

Organizational Structure

National Association of Youth NGOs will run on the basis of a steering committee. This committee will be build up by members selected by the chairperson and 9 members elected from each zone. Meetings of members will be conducted on a scheduled time frame.

Assistance to projects

Assistance will be given to projects conducted by member Youth NGOs through out the year. On the basis of this, 60% of all the costs of the project will be given to particular projects proposed by the member Youth NGOs and the remaining costs have to be managed by the Youth NGO. This assistance will be give to those proposed projects which fit into the categories decided by National Association of Youth NGOs.

Categories for assisting projects

Assistance to member Youth NGOs will be given in the following categories: Awareness, Skill training and employment, increasing working potential of Youth NGOs, Sports and Entertainment.

Procedure for granting projects

  1. Technical and financial assistance will be provided to projects proposed by member Youth NGOs according to the category for proposing projects.
  2. Assistance will be given to best project proposals each year and if the project is successfully completed, additional assistance can be granted.
  3. After the evaluation procedure, 60% of all cost of the project will be granted with exclusion of sponsors.

Note: Projects which are to be given assistance by National Association of Youth NGOs will be informed to the member Youth NGO.

Terms of Assistance

  1. The deadline for proposing projects for the following year will be April of each year.
  2. Starting projects without delay on the decided date should be taken into special consideration.
  3. With the exclusion of sponsors the total Cost of each project proposed by member Youth NGOs should not exceed Rf 10,000 (Ten thousand rufiyaa). But more than Rf 10,000 (Ten thousand rufiyaa) will be granted to 10 special projects proposed by member Youth NGOs each year.
  4. Projects should be proposed on the project proposal form which is made by National Association of Youth NGOs.
  5. If one or more member Youth NGOs in the same island propose similar projects, project will be granted for the best proposal.

Meetings conducted in Male’

These meetings are informal meetings which will be conducted for focal points of member Youth NGOs in Male’. This is to increase communication between National Association of Youth NGOs and member Youth NGOs, provide a system for member Youth NGOs to share ideas and opinions between each other. These meetings will be conducted once in each half of the year.

1- North (zone 1, 2 and 3)
Focal points in Male’ representing member Youth NGOs from the northern region will be participating in this meeting.

2- Middle (zone 4, 5 and 9)
Focal points in Male’ representing member Youth NGOs from the middle region and focal points of member Youth NGOs in Male’ (Zone 9) will be participating in this meeting.

3- Middle (zone 6, 7 and 8)
Focal points in Male’ representing member Youth NGOs from the south region will be participating in this meeting.

4- Collective Meeting
After completion of the three regional meetings, a final meeting will be conducted for all focal points in Male’ representing member Youth NGOs. This meeting is for presenting the final documents of issues discussed during the regional meetings.

Atoll Meetings

*1-Stage 1 (Atoll Meetings of Member Youth NGOs)
Representatives of all member Youth NGOs in the Region will be gathering in the Zone Youth and sports centre of the zone to conduct individual atoll level meetings. These meetings will be coordinated by the person in charge of the Zone Youth and Sports Centre or person decided by National Association of Youth NGOs. An atoll focal point will be elected by member Youth NGOs in each Atoll meeting for a term of two years.

*2-Stage 2 (Zone Meetings of Member Youth NGOs)
After completion of Stage 1, this meeting also will be conducted in the Zone Youth and Sports Centre. Representatives of all member Youth NGOs in the region will gather to conduct a Zone level meeting. This meeting also will be coordinated by the person in charge of the Zone Youth and Sports Centre or person decided by National Association of Youth NGOs. A Zone focal point will be elected by member Youth NGOs for each zone in this meeting, for a term of two years.

3-National Level Meeting
This meeting will be conducted once every two years. Steering Committee of Youth NGOs, Zone Coordinators (persons in charge of Zone Youth and Sports Centers), Atoll and Zone focal points elected in stage 1 and 2 will participate in this meeting.

Note: In stage 1, altogether 21 meetings will be conducted and 9 meetings will be conducted in stage 2. After completion of stage 1 and 2, the National Level meeting will be conducted.

*These meetings can be conducted each year.
